After a decade of inorganic growth, Tata Group has stepped up activity on the organic growth front through the past three years. In 2013-14, the first full year under the chairmanship of Cyrus Mistry, the 10 most valued listed companies of the group saw record capital expenditure of Rs 95,634 crore on organic growth. This was largely on the back of Tata Steel’s expansion at the Kalinganagar plant in Odisha, as well as expansion related to the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) brand in China and Brazil.

Sept 11, New Delhi: India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Chennai on Wednesday arrested a Sri Lankan national for allegedly spying at the behest of Pakistan.

Arun Selvarajan, a Sri Lankan Tamil, was arrested by the NIA as part of its crackdown on the espionage ring that operates out of Sri Lanka, Indian media reported.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Recognising the enormous contribution made by the Planters’  Association, the then Governor General of Ceylon Lord Soulbury said, “Apart from  its contribution to the development of agriculture of Ceylon the (Planters’)  Association has played a major role in the sphere of internal communications, particularly roads and railways so vital to economic progress; and has wielded considerable influence in the political advancement of the country.” The then Prime Minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, who  ceremonially opened the Planters’ Associations new headquarters at Colpetty in  1957 – acknowledging the enormous significance of the PA to the country – stated, “The  real government of the country, the power behind the throne, was in the hands of  two associations, The Planters’ Association of Ceylon and the Chamber of  Commerce.”

Sri Lankan Trade Unions yesterday accused the government of misusing the  Employees Provident Fund (EPF) claiming that 92 percent of the fund had been  used to provide loans to the government.

EPF fund in 2011 was Rs. 1,020 billion.
