OIC arrested over sexual assault gets bail

KANDY: The Officer in Charge (OIC) of Rattota police station IP Kapila Dassanayake, arrested by Special Crime Investigation Unit following a complain of sexually assaulting a married Grama Niladharini of Bomure in Udadumbara was released on cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and two sureties of Rs. 5000 each, by Teldeniya District Judge N. M. Farikdeen at the Panwila Circuit Court on Thursday (12) yesterday.

The suspect IP Dassanayake allegedly committed the offence on April 09 of 2017 but the complaint against him was made to the Colombo Special Investigations Unit on October 06, 2017.

 

The offence was allegedly committed when the suspect was OIC of Udadumbara police station according to the complaint.

 

The suspect IP Dassanayake was recently transferred as OIC Rattota police station in the Matale Division.

 

The Special Investigation Unit arrested the suspect on October 11 and was produced before Panwila Court on Thursday (12).

 

The Magistrate and Additional District Judge N. M. Farikdeen after recording the bail order with the condition that he report to the Special Crime Investigations Unit, Colombo on the last Sunday of every month, put off the case for January 24 next year.

 

Senior Attorney-at-Law Sarath Premakumara and Attorney A. Jameel appeared for IP Dassanayake.

 

A. S. P. Bandara Ratnayake and IP C. P. Gunatilake of the Special Crime Investigation Unit prosecuted.
