Three hearty cheers is totally inadequate to celebrate and thank  the Joint Opposition who “foiled the government’s attempt to smuggle it though  on October 8;” it being the Gazette giving Packer a bumper tax holiday for his  Casino. The government had tried to push it through. Opposition MPs had not been  provided copies of the said Gazette and thus James Packer going back to  Australia with no assurance of a ten year tax holiday and then a mere six  percent tax for the following 12 years.

Prime responsibility to course correct TNA rests with people: Gajendrakumar

October 15, 2013 at 10:10 pm

[TamilNet, Monday, 14 October 2013, 15:52 GMT] The people who overwhelmingly voted for the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) had cast their votes with a different perception and anticipation than what the TNA has officially articulated in writing in its election manifesto, said Tamil National Peoples’ Front (TNPF) leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam in Jaffna on Monday. “The people have a major responsibility now and they can’t simply take the risk of allowing the TNA leadership to take a completely different path contrary to their intention and wait for the next elections,” he said adding that the people should involve them directly at political level course correcting, if the Tamil polity to be in sync with their political aspirations.

CHOGM is due to be chaired by Prince Charles and attended by the British Prime Minister David Cameron.  Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper’s office announced that Harper will be boycotting the meeting protesting the “intimidation and incarceration of political leaders and journalists, harassment of minorities, reported disappearances, and allegations of extra-judicial killings,” and Canada accused Indian Diplomat Sharma as acting as a stooge to Colombo.

Now, the Tamil villagers are shocked to learn that their paddy fields are being taken away to carve out a Sinhala colony in the middle of their village where they have been struggling to start their livelihood after 30 years of displacement.
