The Lanka Eksath Guru Sangamaya has urged its members, numbering 11,000, to apply sick leave on May 24 and attend a conference to be held in Colombo.

Some sections of the teachers’ unions said they had been forced to apply for sick leave.
The conference has been organised by Lanka Eksath Guru Sangamaya, Independent Education Employees Association, Podu Guru Wurthikayange Sangamaya and Sri Lanka Jathika Viduhalpathi Sangamaya.
The objective of the conference is to urge the government to give promotions to principals who were appointed to the posts in 2009 and backdate the letters of appointment in respect of the principals who received their appointments after 2009.
