The appointment of Arujna Mahendran as the Governor of the Central Bank in 2015 has been legal and constitutional, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe told Parliament.

The State Minister was responding to an oral question raised by SJB MP Chaminda Wijesekera.

Another question raised by MP Wijesiri as to whether Mahendran was involved in a bond scam caused arguments.

“The MP should be aware that there are a number of court cases pending with regard to the bond scam,” the State Minister said.

“The State Minister seems to be in difficulty as it was said those days that Mahendran was appointed by the incumbent President in 2015,” Wijesiri said. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
