The government was in a position to reduce electricity tariff, State Minister of Power and Energy, Indika Anuruddha Herath told journalists in Colombo on Thursday (07).

“There is enough water in reservoirs. We expect that there will be dry weather in the first few months of 2024. However, we believe that we can continue to generate significant amounts of hydro power during that period,” he said.

Minister for Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga said the electricity tariff could be reduced by January or February.

“VAT will have an impact but we believe tariff will drop from current levels,” he said.
