CEB admits its fault over countrywide power breakdown on Dec 09
The electricity regulator, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), said on Wednesday (27), that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had admitted that it was at fault for the island-wide power interruptions on December 09.
The PUCSL said the CEB took over five hours to restore power and that it was ‘problematic’.
The CEB has told the PUCSL that due to the lack of funds it could not maintain an additional power generator to be used in emergencies.
The power outage was attributed to the breakdown in the transmission line from Kotmale to Biyagama due to lightning.
CEB denies PUCSL statement
Investigations into the power outage were in progress, CEB’s media spokesman Eng. Noel Priyantha said in a press release.(RK)
