The Executive Director of the Institute of Democratic Reforms and Electoral Studies Manjula Gajanayake has taken exception to the appointment of former CID Director Shani Abeysekera as the Director of the Central Criminal Intelligence Analysis Bureau on 10 Oct.

Gajanayake said Abeysekera had been considered an efficient officer while in service, but he had joined a collective of retired police officers who actively campaigned for the NPP at the last Presidential election and his appointment had been made after the declaration of the upcoming parliamentary election.
