Matale District SJB leader Rohini Kaviratne has alleged that the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s government, over a period of 13 days, from Oct. 02 to Oct. 15, secured Rs 419,000 mn by way of Treasury bills and bonds.

The former parliamentarian said so in a statement issued yesterday (16). Kaviratne, who heads SJB candidates, in the Matale district, said that on Oct. 02 the government obtained Rs 14,200 mn, On 09, Rs 8,500 mn, on Oct. 11 Rs 9,500 mn and on Oct. 15, Rs 9,700 mn.

President Dissanayake holds the Finance portfolio.

Kaviratne said that the government owed an explanation as to why such massive sums were obtained, especially against the backdrop of its inability to pay Rs 3000 monthy interim allowance to pensioners.

The former MP said that the government was in such a desperate situation it couldn’t meet the promised salary increase offered to public servants (SF)
