The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (20) questioned former Minister and TMVP leader Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pilleyan in respect of the ongoing investigation into the Channel 4 documentary on the 2019 Easter Sunday carnage.

The CID was investigating the claims made by Azad Maulana, one-time associate of Pilleyan, who is a former LTTE cadre, regarding the Easter Sunday tragedy. Maulana has claimed Pilleyan was associated with those who planned and executed the 2019 terror attacks.

The documentary, aired on 06 Sept. 2023, reiterated accusations of a plot to facilitate Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s victory in the 2019 presidential election. The Opposition has repeatedly alleged that Channel 04 is notorious for doing hatchet jobs in pursuit of Western agendas.

Pilleyan contested the recently concluded general election in Batticaloa on the TMVP ticket. He failed to retain his seat.
