The Wattuwakal Bridge, a key access route to Mullaitivu town, was closed to vehicular traffic on Thursday (28). Police have been deployed to ensure the safety of the public.

The decision was taken after the bridge became unstable following several days of heavy water flow across the bridge, due to a surge of lagoon and rainwater.

Initially, security forces restricted vehicular movement across the bridge. However, it was fully closed for vehicles on on Thursday.At present, the bridge is open only to pedestrians.
