The SJB and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said on Friday that the nomination of members for the four remaining national list slots in Parliament would take more time, with the appointment of the Chief Opposition Whip to follow thereafter.

Premadasa indicated that further discussions on these nominations are scheduled for the coming week. “We, are in the opposition, and face it as it comes,” he said in the context of pressure from various parties and individuals competing for the available seats.

The SJB, which secured five national list seats in Parliament, has so far appointed its General Secretary, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, to one of the slots. The remaining positions are yet to be finalized, sparking anticipation about the party’s strategic plans in Parliament.

On a separate note, Premadasa shared plans to resume his Sakwala Husma relief initiative, which aims to support rural schools and medical facilities. The program was temporarily paused due to the recent elections. Premadasa reaffirmed his commitment to this initiative, emphasizing its importance in addressing the needs of underserved communities.
