Govt. tells House Aswesuma allowance will be increased
The Government informed Parliament yesterday that the monthly allowances provided under the Aswesuma Welfare Benefit Scheme would be increased.
Chief Government Whip and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the benefits provided under the general category for 800,000 recipients had been increased from Rs. 8,500 to Rs. 10,000.
He said that benefits provided under the most vulnerable category for 400,000 recipients had been increased from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 17,500.
Minister Jayatissa also announced that the Cabinet has approved the extension of Aswesuma allowances for vulnerable persons under two phases.
He said that benefits for 400,000 vulnerable persons which were to end on December 31, 2024, have been extended for a year.
Dr Jayatissa said that benefits for another 400,000 recipients which were to end on December 31, 2024, have been extended until March 31, 2025.
