13 reservoirs start spilling due to high rainfall
Colombo, January 13 (Daily Mirror) – A total of 13 reservoirs have started spilling due to high rainfall in the catchment areas, the Water Management Branch of the Irrigation Department reported.
These reservoirs include Mahakandarawa, Mahawilachchiya, Nuwara Wewa, Rajangana, Unnichchi, Muruthawela, Weerawila, Ellewela, Wemedilla, Mediyawa, Usgala, Ethimale and Wan Ela, all of which have reached spill level.
Residents and those frequenting areas downstream of these reservoirs are advised to remain vigilant for sudden floods.
The increased water levels are attributed to heavy showers occurring in the sea areas stretching from Colombo to Kankesanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar.
