Police seize largest drug money haul in Sri Lanka’s history

The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) seized over Rs. 283 million in cash, the largest amount ever recovered in the history of the Sri Lankan police, in the Kurunegala area.

The money, believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking, was discovered hidden in a house, along with two vehicles.

Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya, said at a media conference that the money belongs to a drug trafficker operating from within the prison.

He said the police have informed the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court about the recovery.
