Colombo, March 19 (Daily Mirror) – Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela today ordered that the charge sheet on Arjuna Aloysius be officially served on April 30 over a case pertaining to an alleged fraud of Rs. 12 million linked to a purchase of printing paper for newspaper production.

The complaint was filed by Neptune Paper (Pvt) Ltd., a company involved in importing and distributing printing paper,
against Arjuna Aloysius and Kadathota Gedara Chaminda Sahan.

During today’s proceedings, Aloysius was present before Court but the second accused, Chaminda Sahan, failed to appear.

Counsel for the complainant informed court that Aloysius had issued four cheques in 2019 despite knowing that his bank account lacked sufficient funds.

The charges include fraud and criminal misappropriation.

Appearing on behalf of Aloysius, counsel told court that the accused had not received the charge sheet as he was in prison. However, the defense also mentioned that steps were being taken to settle the outstanding payments.

The complainant however stated that the charge sheet had already been forwarded to the Prisons authorities and had been duly served to the accused.
They further alleged that the suspect was attempting to delay the proceedings.

After considering the submissions from both sides, the magistrate ordered that the charge sheet be formally served on Aloysius on April 30 and postponed the case.
