Jaffna–Trichy flight service commences after 47 years

Colombo, March 30 (Daily Mirror) – A direct flight service between Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu and Jaffna in Sri Lanka commenced today after 47 years.
Due to the war situation, flight services at the Palaly International Airport, Jaffna were suspended, but in 2019, the airport resumed its services. Passenger flights between Chennai and Jaffna started after the reopening of the airport.
Steps have been taken to initiate flights from other cities in Tamil Nadu, including Tiruchirappalli, to Jaffna. Accordingly, a flight service from Tiruchirappalli to Jaffna has been launched.
The flight will depart at 1:25 PM from Tiruchirappalli and will arrive in Jaffna at 2:25 PM. Similarly, the flight from Jaffna will depart at 3:05 PM and will arrive in Tiruchirappalli at 4:05 PM.
Indigo Airlines will operate this flight service.
The official fare for the flight between Tiruchirappalli and Jaffna has also been announced. Accordingly. the fare will range from INR 5,900 to INR 6,400 for a one-way ticket from Tiruchirappalli to Jaffna.
On the first flight today, a total of 27 passengers arrived at the Palaly Airport at 2:02 PM and the return flight from Palaly with 36 passengers departed for Tiruchirappalli at around 3:00 PM.
A team led by Indian Deputy Consul General Sai Murali celebrated the inaugural flight with a cake cutting ceremony.
