X-Press Pearl disaster: AG considers transferring case to SICC
The Attorney General has filed a claim in the High Court of Singapore over the X-Press Pearl incident, involving six defendants, the President’s Media Division says.
A case conference hearing took place on May 15 and the next date is scheduled for June.
The PMD has said the AG’s Department is considering the transfer of the case to the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) based on SICC’s rules and litigation being managed by a Singaporean law firm approved by the Cabinet to represent the Sri Lankan Government.
The PMD issued the statement in the wake of repeated allegations that a case hadn’t been filed. Environmentalist Dr. Ajantha Perera, on Tuesday (16), told the media, outside the Human Rights Commission, that contrary to claims, a case hadn’t been filed.
