56 Lankans trapped in terrorist-run Cyber Criminal Area of Myanmar

The Foreign Ministry has received information about 56 Sri Lankans, trapped in an area known as the Cyber Criminal Area (CCA) in Myanmar.Attorney at Law Mihiri Fernando of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Myanmar told the media that 56 Sri Lankans were in three camps in the CCA.Out of them, 41 are men and 15 are women.
“48 of them are in one camp,” she said.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador in Myanmar, Janaka Priyantha Bandara, is holding discussions with Myanmar officials about the possibility of rescuing the Sri Lankans.
“There are clashes between the terrorist groups these days, and Myanmar officials can’t reach these areas. There are about 120,000 people from around the world trapped in these camps,” she said.
The CCA is an area controlled by some terrorist groups in Myanmar.
The 56 Sri Lankans have been duped into coming to Myanmar on a tourist visa by promising IT-related jobs.They had been promised jobs in Thailand.
These have now been trapped in the CCA and terrorists are using them to run various scams. Some of these Sri Lankans have contacted media institutions to tell them about their plight.
