Indra Silva buys 1.6% of HNB for Rs. 2.2 b; Finco exits

High net worth but low profile Indra Silva yesterday bought a 1.6% voting stake in Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB) for Rs. 2.2 billion.

HNB yesterday saw 8.92 million voting shares traded for Rs. 2.657 billion. Of the quantities traded 7.470 million shares were done at Rs. 298 each via three crossings in a deal worth Rs. 2.22 billion.

Deals on HNB accounted for 27% of near Rs. 10 billion turnover yesterday. HNB share closed at Rs. 301.50, up by 2.64% or Rs. 7.75.

The seller was Finco Holdings Ltd., which as at 30 September 2024, held 7.269 million shares or 1.59%.

Indra Silva held 4.5 million shares or 0.99% as at end September 2024 and with yesterday’s purchase he is believed to be owning over 2.6% voting stake of HNB.

Silva also holds a 10% stake in Sampath Bank and an equal stake in Commercial Bank.
