Treasury advises Parliament to pay food suppliers online: Official
Colombo, Feb 04 (Daily Mirror) – The Treasury has advised Parliament to pay food suppliers online from this year, a senior official from Parliament said today.
Deputy Secretary General of Parliament, Chaminda Kularatne told the Daily Mirror that the Treasury has advised Parliament to pay its suppliers online from this year.
“There will be only an online fund transfer to the food suppliers’ bank accounts from this year,” Kularatne said.
“There won’t be any involvement of vouchers when we go in for online fund transfers,” he added.
He said what has really happened with regard to the payment of Rs. 80 million for 122 vouchers is that the suppliers have not returned the acknowledgements for the payments.
“We usually send crossed cheques to our suppliers and they sign on the stamped vouchers and send them back to us. The suppliers have not sent us the 122 vouchers concerned. However, the cheques have been realized and the supplies have received the due payments. Therefore, there is no scam involved,” he also said.
