Following Adani Group’s withdrawal from a controversial wind energy project in Sri Lanka, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday (14) raised concerns over the exit of foreign investors, warning that it was a serious situation.

Addressing Parliament, Premadasa said that all transactions had to be conducted in a transparent manner and the exit of foreign investors was a matter for serious concern.

“Power disruptions are occurring. What is the solution to this problem? he questioned.

Premadasa also asked in Parliament what measures the government had taken to prevent further blackouts.

“There could be another power disruption at any moment, and there is a strong possibility of another breakdown on Sunday when demand decreases. We would like to ask the Minister of Power and Energy to make a statement on this matter in the House,” he said.

Responding to the concerns, Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake said that either the Ceylon Electricity Board or the subject Minister would issue a statement on the matter shortly and the Opposition had to stick to the order paper.
